I finally got mine.
Just when I thought I wouldn't get it this year and would have to wait well into January, I get a phone call from Pictureline. (HIGHLY recommended BTW. These guys stock stuff like the 200-400VR) www.pictureline.com
I didn't have my hopes up and was not expecting anything so it was a bit of a surprise.
The phone call went something like this:
"Hey Josh, this is Nick. What's up?"
At that point, I remembered why he must be calling. Cool.
.... blah blah
"Yes, I will come pick it up today."
I like it so far but I need to put it through its paces before I can get a real understanding of its characteristics. So far, it has some pretty impressive capabilities.

Holy balls.
The high ISO performance is seriously what it has been touted to be. I have VERY usable 4500 shots that look like my D200 did at 800 ISO. I wouldn't even hesitate to shoot at this ISO. In fact, I had a hard time going to 1600 on my D200 because I knew the shots would lose a lot of color and dynamic range and have enough noise that they would look bad in print. I did everything I could to keep from going over 800 and now with the D3 I have no hesitations to shoot all the way up to 6400 ISO.
Remarkable.
I guess you have to see it to believe it.
+ Live View is SOO cool for still life work.
But more that I hope that you'll send us SOON some nice pic of yours, like we'Re used to see.
It's all good. I knew what you meant.
I am excited to use it for a shoot. So far I have only used it to shoot family for Christmas. I am really itching to use it in the studio and for some landscape stuff. I am waiting to pick up a 14-24mm lens to use with it too so I am a little held back on the wide angle stuff until I receive my lens too.
I dislike snow.
And my camera need to be repaired
