Updated my website... finally.

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 17, 2009, 3:47 PM
Check it out if you have a spare 5. It's short and sweet but still missing some content.

I haven't tested in IE7 yet so be warned... Any feedback is always appreciated. Good or bad.

I'm not sure what I want to put in the "design" tab. I've got a lot of things I've done but I haven't come up with a way I want to display it yet. Maybe I'll come up with something later this week. I have some other freelance projects I need to wrap up first.

Logo Refresh

Journal Entry: Fri May 8, 2009, 9:47 PM
I started working on a logo refresh because I felt my UF thingy was getting dated. Took a good couple of weeks working sporadically. Not really coming up with anything that impressed me. One night I was sketching some seriously RETARDED looking designs and then BAM! I was hit by the creative train and had an idea. The thing is, this idea actually WORKED. I vectored it in Illustrator and tweaked it for a couple days. 4-5 versions later I was ready to call it good but felt I should sit on it for a couple weeks before committing.

I am happy to say I really like it. Might not be the coolest thing ever and the most eye catching but I think it fits my style and is still recognizable to anybody that had seen my original design (if you can call it a DESIGN). I'd say it is a nice evolution.

I have been working on a site redesign as well but haven't come up with something I felt was right. I also haven't had time to work on it due to an influx of freelance design work that has come in (in addition to my full-time job and a few photo sessions in between). I'll get to it again soon.

Here's the finished design:

The Wise Teachings of Imola.

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 23, 2008, 8:14 PM
I think it is time to update the 4 people that ever read this.

Hey guys!

Anyway...

I bought an Imola Red 2002 BMW ///M3 back in June but had some issues when I flew out to L.A. to pick it up. Ended up flying back home so I could meet my bro at the airport for his homecoming. Instead of driving it back home, I had the car shipped back so I could get back in time. The problems started when I got to L.A. and never seemed to let up. Now, before I start, I need to get something off my chest:

Bob Thomas BMW in Calabasas SUUUUUCKS!!!

(Deep breath)

Through this experience, I've had a few issues come up that have reminded me about something called PATIENCE. Long story short, there was a relay that went bad causing the SMG box to drop out of gear leaving me stranded. The dealer I was at couldn't seem to diagnose the problem and they were dragging their feet. To top it off, my service advisor was CLUELESS and they wouldn't let me talk to the mechanics. (I'll just say my background is more than qualified considering my experience with these cars and what I have made a living doing for 3 years...). I could have fixed the car faster myself but since the previous owner said he was going to float the bill, I left it at the mercy of the dealer and fly back home.

The dealer sucks to deal with over the phone and they are taking their sweet time. It takes them another week before they do anything. They finally inspect the relay I told them to replace (and told them about the relay recall that affected my car year). They replace the relay again. Car works. Takes another week before I can get a truck by the dealer soon enough that they don't leave. The first time I had a truck stop by to pick the car up, he was 10 minutes late, called ahead, and was told nobody would stay around for him. F***ers.

Finally get the car back to Salt Lake and it is running fine but the previous owner is being a turd in getting the title released to me so I wasn't able to register it. My bank is also on my case about getting their name as the leinholder. Phone call after phone call after phone call after...

In the mean time, I have also purchased a set of Moton Club Sports (and springs, plates, etc) and a front bar for it back when I first bought the car. It ended up taking 4 months before I got most of the parts and could install it.

In the end, I had to make a lot of phone calls and do a lot of bugging but it finally paid off. I finally got the title last Tuesday, the license plates on Thursday and the suspension installed last Friday. [sarcasm] Yay, just in time for winter.[/sarcasm] At least now things are finally coming together. The car is definitely fun to drive.

I'm still waiting for some adjustable rear control arms but they aren't holding things back at least. Maybe I can get it finished before next spring.

What a lesson in patience....

On to other news.

I haven't been shooting as much as I would like. Just taking pictures here and there as I get time. Took a few when I was down in Lake Powell. Which, by the way, was cold and rainy. We left October 3rd and came back the next week.

Ada and I are going to shoot soon. We have an idea in the werx. Check back soon.

Also, somewhat good news, I decided my deviations are all too small to enjoy. I will be updating them in the next few days with larger versions so that they may be better appreciated (if you appreciate any of them).

Cheers!

Oh yeah, one more thing.

I hate winter.

Studio Time.

Fri Jan 11, 2008, 12:28 AM
I have over 19 hours of studio time every week until the end of the semester.

Will I still enjoy the studio by the end of the term?

Shoutboard

Before I rant a little I want to say that I don't feel like my art is unappreciated or neglected. I am not looking for praise or recognition. I am here for feedback and to learn by watching others. A persons photos (mostly) speak for themselves. If I don't get favs, it is probably because it sucks. But getting more exposure would always help. Now, the topic at hand...

Why is it that a fairly recognized artist can post a really shizzy photo and STILL get ~3k favs on it?

Once they get their following (read: cult) of watchers, their watchers will fav anything they post and I mean ANYTHING. They get 1500 favs on a camera phone picture of themselves taking a dump!

Then you start to see images from these artists that are all the same. They are all taken in the same field at the same tree or all have the same heavy Photoshop effects applied. Nothing new. Nothing unique. Cookie-cutter images. Why are people still worshiping these people when they aren't producing great art anymore? Where is the innovation now?

Half of the popular images here are junk. It may have some decent lighting or subject matter (usually looks like they got lucky) but the quality is laughable at best. It is out of focus where it counts, overly soft, there are flaws and distracting things in the BG, it isn't straight when it should be, sometimes the subject sucks too. The "judges" for these images have no taste for quality or ANY ability to look for technical qualities in the photo.

My other bone to pick is with artistic nudes. Yes there are a lot of good artistic shots but there is also a lot of ridiculous amateur pr0n posted. Again, taken with cheap P&S cameras and phones. Artistic nude is supposed to be artistic. If you post a shot in the bathroom with your Coolpix or Elph squeezing your tits in the mirror, you are posting amateur pr0n. That is NOT art. What really gets me on this is that there will be 50+ (sometimes hundreds) of favs on a camera phone pic of (insert girl's name here)'s new boobs/piercing/tatoo with some sort of nudity in it. Don't support these idiots looking to get their jollies on dA!

Now go post in the poll and tell me what you think.
